ISWAP Terrorists Attack Nigerian Military Base In Adamawa, Troops Kill Six Insurgents

Troops of the Nigerian military have reportedly repelled an attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram fighters on a military base in Adamawa State, killing six insurgents and recovering weapons and ammunition during the operation.
The attack targeted Forward Operating Base (FOB) Garaha in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State. According to a military statement released on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, the troops were able to defend the facility and force the attackers to retreat after an exchange of gunfire.
The operation was conducted by troops of the Joint Task Force North-East under Operation Hadin Kai, the military’s counter-insurgency mission in the region. The assault reportedly began at approximately 9:07 p.m., when the suspected insurgents advanced on foot from the LAR axis towards the military position.
Military authorities said the attackers appeared to be attempting to overrun the base. However, personnel of Sector 4 responded with coordinated firepower, engaging the assailants and preventing them from taking control of the facility.
Following the confrontation, the attackers reportedly withdrew from the area. Troops subsequently searched the surrounding location and discovered six bodies believed to belong to the insurgents killed during the exchange.
The military also reported recovering a cache of weapons, ammunition and other equipment abandoned during the attack. The recovered items included six AK-47 rifles, one PKT machine gun, ammunition belts, magazines and a 60mm mortar bomb.
Other items reportedly recovered included 157 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 120 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, an Infinix Android mobile phone, a Canon portable video recorder, water bags, a magazine carrier and assorted clothing.
The recovery of the weapons and equipment could assist military investigators in assessing the attackers’ capabilities and gathering intelligence about their movements and operational activities. However, the military statement did not disclose whether the electronic devices or other recovered materials had yielded additional intelligence.
Despite repelling the assault, the military acknowledged that some Nigerian soldiers sustained injuries during the confrontation. The injured personnel were receiving medical attention, while arrangements for their evacuation were reportedly ongoing.
The military did not disclose the exact number of soldiers wounded or provide details about the severity of their injuries. It also did not report any confirmed fatalities among its personnel in the statement concerning the Garaha attack.
Following the incident, troops intensified searches and mop-up operations around the affected area in an effort to locate fleeing insurgents, recover additional equipment and prevent another attack on the military position.
The Theatre Command of Operation Hadin Kai reiterated its commitment to sustaining counter-terrorism operations across the North-East. The military said it would continue efforts to restrict insurgent movements, protect vulnerable communities and weaken the operational capacity of armed groups in the region.
