South African Court Sentences 22-Year-Old Man To 20 Years For Raping His Mother
The Carnarvon Regional Court in South Africa’s Northern Cape Province has sentenced a 22-year-old man to 20 years’ direct imprisonment for raping his 42-year-old mother at their home in Carnarvon.
The incident occurred on November 23, 2025, while the victim was asleep.
According to the South African Police Service, the woman woke up after feeling someone on top of her and discovered that the perpetrator was her son.
She screamed and confronted him, prompting him to immediately get off her. The woman then woke her husband, but the accused fled the house.
The incident was subsequently reported to the police, who launched an investigation into the case.
The matter was assigned to Detective Constable Leevirne Nathalie Raaf of the Carnarvon Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit for further investigation.
The suspect was later arrested after DNA analysis linked him to the crime.
He appeared before the court several times during the proceedings, with Detective Constable Raaf successfully opposing his bail application.
On Friday, August 28, 2026, the Carnarvon Regional Court found the 22-year-old guilty of rape and sentenced him to 20 years’ direct imprisonment.
The court further ordered that his name be placed on South Africa’s National Register for Sex Offenders and declared him unfit to possess a firearm.
District Commissioner of the Pixley ka Seme District, Major General Nomana Mtukushe, commended Detective Constable Raaf for her dedication and thorough investigative work.
Mtukushe said the detective’s efforts played a significant role in securing the conviction and lengthy prison sentence.
The conviction brings the case to a close after months of investigation and court proceedings.
