Nigerian Military Personnel to Receive30%–80% Salary Increases Tinubu Approves New Pay Structure

President Bola Tinubu has approved a new salary structure for members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, granting pay increases ranging from 30% to 80% for about 250,000 military personnel. The new salary package is scheduled to take effect from September 1 and is aimed at improving the welfare and morale of troops.
Under the approved structure, officers above the rank of Colonel—including Brigadier Generals, Major Generals, Lieutenant Generals and Generals—will receive a 30% salary increase. Personnel from Colonel to Warrant Officer will benefit from a 50% pay rise, while soldiers from Private to Staff Sergeant will receive the highest increase of 80%.
The implementation of the new salary package will raise the annual wage bill for the armed forces from ₦660 billion to ₦924 billion, reflecting the Federal Government’s increased investment in military personnel as they continue to combat banditry, kidnapping, terrorism and other security threats across the country.
President Tinubu said the salary increase demonstrates his administration’s appreciation for the sacrifices of the armed forces. He reaffirmed his commitment to prioritising troop welfare, modernising the military with improved equipment and technology, and strengthening national security to protect the lives and property of Nigerians.
