KADUNA POLICE ARREST MAN OVER DEATH OF GIRLFRIEND
The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Jatau in connection with the death of his girlfriend, Rebecca Jeremiah, whose body was discovered in the Romi area of Chikun Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement issued by the police spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, the command received a report on September 5 that a body had been found along Mai Angwa Street in Romi.
Following the report, officers from the Romi Outstation responded to the scene and took the woman to St. Gerald Hospital, Kakuri, where she was pronounced dead.
Her body was subsequently deposited at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy to determine the circumstances and cause of her death.
Police said Jatau was the last known person to have contacted the deceased before her death. According to the command, he had invited Jeremiah to meet him at a beer parlour in Romi.
Following preliminary investigations, detectives traced Jatau to his workplace at Tomato Jos Company in the Maraban area of Igabi Local Government Area, where he was arrested.
The police said that during questioning, the suspect admitted to having an altercation with the deceased in his room after she allegedly received a phone call from another woman.
According to the police account, Jatau told investigators that the confrontation escalated into a physical fight which resulted in Jeremiah’s death.
The suspect allegedly further told investigators that he subsequently moved the woman’s body to an open field close to his residence in an attempt to conceal the incident.
The police said the suspect remains in custody while investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
The command said further action, including the filing of charges, would follow after investigators conclude their inquiry and establish the facts of the case.
The Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, condemned the incident and urged members of the public to resolve disputes peacefully rather than resorting to violence.
The command also reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice for victims and holding anyone found responsible for criminal acts accountable under the law.
