NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT ORDERS HEIGHTENED SECURITY AROUND UNITY COLLEGES AS SCHOOLS RESUME MONDAY
The Nigerian Government has directed authorities of Federal Unity Colleges nationwide to maintain close coordination with security agencies as schools prepare to resume academic activities on Monday, September 14, 2026.
The Federal Ministry of Education said relevant security agencies had been informed of the resumption arrangements and were maintaining heightened vigilance around Federal Unity Colleges and their immediate environments.
The ministry gave the assurance in a statement issued on Friday by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations, as preparations intensified for the new academic session.
According to the ministry, all Federal Unity Colleges across the country will resume academic activities on Monday as scheduled.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, said the government had put necessary measures in place to support a safe and smooth resumption across the schools.
Alausa said the safety and wellbeing of students and staff remained central to the government’s commitment to providing a secure environment for teaching and learning.
“Relevant security agencies have been duly informed of the resumption arrangements and are maintaining heightened vigilance around the Federal Unity Colleges and their immediate environments,” the minister said.
He added that the coordinated efforts were aimed at safeguarding students, staff and other members of school communities as academic activities resume across the country.
The minister urged parents and guardians to remain calm and rely on official information as they prepare to return their children and wards to school.
He specifically called on parents to ensure that their children and wards return to their respective Federal Unity Colleges on Monday as scheduled.
Alausa also directed school authorities to maintain close coordination with relevant security agencies and other appropriate authorities to facilitate an orderly and secure resumption.
He appealed to students, parents, teachers, school administrators and other stakeholders to work together to maintain a peaceful and supportive learning environment.
The minister stressed that the safety and wellbeing of learners remained a shared responsibility, urging all stakeholders to remain vigilant and cooperate with the authorities.
The ministry said it would continue to monitor developments and take necessary measures, in collaboration with relevant authorities, to ensure the smooth and safe resumption of academic activities in all Federal Unity Colleges.
“The Federal Ministry of Education assures students, parents, guardians, teachers and the general public that all necessary arrangements are in place to support a safe, peaceful and successful resumption in all Federal Unity Colleges nationwide,” the statement said.
The government’s assurance comes as students across the country prepare to return to classrooms for the new academic session, with the protection of learners and security around schools remaining key concerns.
The ministry said the measures form part of the Federal Government’s broader commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s education system and ensuring that children have access to quality education in a safe and conducive learning environment.
It linked the commitment to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which it said recognises education and human capital development as essential to Nigeria’s sustainable growth and national development.
