TINUBU’S AIDE SUNDAY ASEFON ACCUSED OF THREATENING ESTRANGED WIFE, WARNS HER AGAINST RETURNING HOME

Sunday Asefon, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Student Engagement, has been accused of threatening his estranged wife, Damilola Tunmise Asefon, and warning her against returning to their family home in Ekiti State.
The allegation was reported by SaharaReporters on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, amid growing controversy surrounding the presidential aide over separate allegations of domestic violence involving his wife and their 10-year-old daughter.
According to reports, the woman and her daughter have raised concerns about their safety, with a petition reportedly submitted to the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police through their legal representatives.
The petition, dated November 2, 2026, allegedly detailed incidents of domestic violence and threats involving the presidential aide. It reportedly requested police intervention, an investigation and measures to protect the complainants.
The latest allegations have brought renewed attention to the circumstances surrounding the couple’s separation and claims that the woman has been warned not to return to the family residence.
The controversy intensified following allegations that Asefon physically assaulted the couple’s 10-year-old daughter on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at their residence in the Odo-Ado area of Ado-Ekiti.
According to the petition, the child allegedly sustained injuries during the incident, with claims that she was left bleeding from her ears and head.
The girl’s mother reportedly took her to the Odo-Ado Police Division before arranging medical attention at the Police Clinic in Ado-Ekiti.
The legal representatives reportedly urged the police to investigate the alleged assault and take steps to guarantee the safety of both the mother and the child.
The petition also allegedly referred to previous incidents of domestic violence involving Asefon, his estranged wife and their children, although those claims require independent investigation.
The allegations have generated further concern because Asefon occupies a position within the Presidency, serving as Senior Special Assistant to Tinubu on Student Engagement.
The controversy also comes shortly after African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore accused Asefon and other individuals of involvement in the October 30 attack on him and members of his team in Ado-Ekiti.
Sowore alleged that individuals connected to the presidential aide were involved in organising the attack, which took place at Tawakalitu Restaurant. Asefon has rejected attempts to drag his family into the political controversy, insisting that his family has no involvement in the issues surrounding Sowore.
In a statement responding to the allegations involving Sowore, Asefon described the decision to involve his name and family in the dispute as unacceptable. However, the statement did not directly address the separate allegations contained in the petition submitted by his estranged wife.
The Ekiti State Police Command had yet to publicly provide a detailed account of its response to the domestic violence allegations as of the latest reports. The claims of threats and assault therefore remain allegations awaiting official investigation and clarification.
The case has also raised questions about the protection available to women and children who report domestic violence, particularly where the accused person holds a position of public authority.
Under Nigeria’s child protection laws, children are entitled to protection from physical and emotional abuse. Authorities are expected to investigate credible complaints and ensure that children and other vulnerable complainants are not exposed to further harm.
The matter has renewed calls for the police to handle domestic violence complaints without political interference, establish the facts surrounding the allegations and ensure that the safety of the woman and child is prioritised.
Street News Reporters will continue to monitor the allegations against Sunday Asefon, the police investigation and any official response from the presidential aide, the Presidency and the Ekiti State authorities.
