KAMALA HARRIS SLAMS TRUMP FOR DRAGGING US INTO ‘UNWANTED’ IRAN WAR, EXPRESSES CONCERN FOR AMERICAN TROOPS
Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has criticised President Donald Trump over the ongoing U.S. military conflict with Iran, accusing him of dragging the United States into a war that she said the American people did not want.
Harris made the remarks while responding to Trump’s decision to launch major military operations against Iran. She described the conflict as a dangerous and unnecessary gamble and expressed concern about American service members being placed in harm’s way.
“Donald Trump is dragging the United States into a war the American people do not want,” Harris said in a statement.
The former vice president said she opposed what she described as a regime-change war in Iran and argued that American troops should not be placed in danger because of what she called Trump’s “war of choice.”
Harris also expressed sympathy for U.S. military personnel involved in the conflict, saying they were carrying out dangerous missions and deserved support.
She said she and her husband, Doug Emhoff, were praying for American service members involved in the military operations and acknowledged the risks faced by troops deployed in the region.
The criticism followed Trump’s announcement that the United States had begun major combat operations against Iran. Trump said the military action was aimed at addressing what his administration considered threats from the Iranian government and preventing Tehran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
Trump also acknowledged that American troops could suffer casualties as a result of the operation.
Harris argued that the military intervention could have wider consequences for the United States and the Middle East. She said the conflict could put American lives at risk, affect regional stability and damage the country’s international standing.
“This is a dangerous and unnecessary gamble with American lives that also jeopardizes stability in the region and our standing in the world,” Harris said.
She further called on Congress to use its constitutional powers to prevent the Trump administration from expanding U.S. involvement in the conflict.
“Our troops, our allies, and the American people deserve nothing less,” Harris said.
The former vice president’s comments come as the Iran conflict continues to generate political debate in the United States, with lawmakers divided over the scope and justification of the military campaign.
The Trump administration has defended the military action, while critics have questioned the decision to enter the conflict and raised concerns about its potential duration and consequences.
The war has also continued to dominate international discussions, with diplomatic efforts and calls for negotiations taking place alongside ongoing military operations. Recent reports indicate that Iran has signalled willingness to consider renewed diplomacy, while Trump has also indicated that talks could resume.
Harris’ criticism therefore adds to the growing political debate in the United States over the administration’s handling of the Iran conflict and the risks facing American military personnel deployed in the region.
Street News Reporters reports that the situation remains fluid as diplomatic contacts and military operations continue, with further developments expected as Washington and Tehran consider possible paths toward ending the conflict.
