BREAKING: IGP Disu Orders Police Commands To Submit Details Of Officers With PhDs, Master’s Degrees, LLBs
The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has directed all commands and formations of the Nigeria Police Force to urgently compile and submit details of serving inspectors and rank-and-file personnel who possess doctorate degrees, master’s degrees or Bachelor of Laws (LLB) certificates.
The directive was contained in a police wireless message dated September 14, 2026, and marked “Most/Immediate,” indicating the urgency attached to the request by the Force leadership.
According to the message issued by the Force Secretary’s Office in Abuja, all relevant police commands, departments, colleges and training institutions are required to submit the requested information on or before Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
The directive specifically requested the names and details of inspectors and rank-and-file personnel serving under the various formations who hold PhDs, master’s degrees or LLB qualifications.
The police authorities also directed the formations to include the posting signals of the affected personnel alongside their academic qualifications. The information is expected to give the Force Headquarters details of both the educational credentials and current postings of the officers concerned.
The wireless message was addressed to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Training and Development, police colleges, various departments and training institutions, as well as all state commands across the country.
The Inspector-General of Police’s office and all Commissioners of Police were also copied in the communication, further underscoring the nationwide nature of the directive.
The message instructed the commands to treat the matter as highly important and repeatedly emphasised the September 16 deadline for compliance.
The latest directive comes against the backdrop of ongoing efforts within the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen professional development, training and personnel management. The Federal Government launched the Nigeria Police Regulations (Amendment) 2026 earlier this year as part of broader police reform efforts focused on professionalism, accountability and improved service delivery.
However, the September 14 wireless message did not publicly state why the Force Headquarters is seeking the specific information or what action will follow after the lists are submitted. It also did not announce that the exercise is directly connected to a promotion, redeployment or upgrading exercise.
The request for officers’ posting signals alongside their academic qualifications could provide the police leadership with a clearer picture of where personnel with advanced academic and legal training are currently serving. The specific purpose of collecting the information, however, was not stated in the directive.
The development also comes after previous exercises involving the documentation of academic qualifications among police personnel. In 2025, police authorities similarly requested information on officers with advanced academic qualifications in connection with personnel documentation and promotion-related processes.
Street News Reporters reports that all affected police formations are expected to meet the September 16 deadline set by the Inspector-General of Police. Until the Force provides further clarification, the immediate purpose of the latest nationwide data request remains unspecified.
