Tinubu’s 2027 INEC documents reportedly omit details of his primary and secondary school qualifications.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the personal particulars and academic credentials of presidential candidates for the January 16, 2027 election, opening the documents to public scrutiny.
President Bola Tinubu declared only his B.Sc. in Business Administration from Chicago State University (1979) in the educational qualifications section of his EC9 form, leaving the primary and secondary school sections blank. He attached his university degree certificate and NYSC certificate. He listed his occupation as “Politician” and outlined his employment history, including Mobil Nigeria, Governor of Lagos State (1999–2007), and President of Nigeria (2023–present).
Peter Obi described himself as a “public servant” and provided his full educational history, from St. Augustine’s Primary School to Christ the King College, Onitsha, and a B.A. in Philosophy from University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He also submitted his NYSC certificate but left the employment history section blank.
Atiku Abubakar listed his educational qualifications from his First School Leaving Certificate and WASC to a Master’s degree in International Relations obtained in 2020. He detailed his career in the Nigerian Customs Service and as Vice President (1999–2007).
INEC said the publication begins the legal period for public scrutiny. Under Section 33 of the Electoral Act, anyone who believes a candidate submitted false information may challenge it in court with evidence.
